Minor Program in Managerial Economics

The Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics (ARE) offers the Managerial Economics minor to students majoring in other disciplines. Students must choose one of the following four emphases: General, Managerial Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Environmental and Natural Resource Economics. Each emphasis requires completion of ARE 100A or ECN 100 in addition to the following preparatory requirement.

To receive a minor in Managerial Economics students must complete the following pre-minor courses with a combined grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.80: MAT 16A & 16B (or 21A & 21B), ECN 1A & 1B, and STA 13. All of these courses must be taken for a letter grade. In determining qualification for minor status, only the first repeat of any pre-minor requirement course will be considered.

To Petition For the Minor You Need

Pre-Minor Requirement: Students must obtain a cumulative GPA of a 2.80 in the following courses:

  • MAT 16A or 21 A
  • MAT 16B or 21 B
  • ECN 1A
  • ECN 1B
  • STA 13

18 upper division units in ARE, including ARE 100A or ECN 100 (variable unit courses will not be accepted)

A cumulative 2.0 GPA in all minor courses

To complete the minor petition (obtained from your major's Dean's office) and have it signed by your major advisor AND minor advisor

To submit the signed minor petition to your Dean's office by the tenth day of the quarter you plan to graduate

Minor Program Requirements

After successful completion of the pre-minor GPA requirement, students must complete the courses of ONE of the emphases listed below to receive the Managerial Economics minor. Students should keep in mind that no more than ONE course may overlap with their major's depth subject matter. Additionally, students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA in minor courses in order to receive the Managerial Economics minor.

General Emphasis

  • 4 units: ARE 100A or ECN 100
  • 14 units: Any upper division ARE courses

Managerial Economics

  • 4 units: ARE 100A or ECN 100
  • 12 units chosen from the following courses: ARE 112, 118, 136, 157, 171A, 171B
  • 3 or 4 units: One additional upper division ARE course

Agricultural Economics

  • 4 units: ARE 100A or ECN 100
  • At least 9 units chosen from the following courses: ARE 120, 130, 132, 138, 139, 140, 145, 150
  • 5 units: Any upper division ARE courses
